Selecting the appropriate Tog rating is one of the most important decisions. 4.5 is the lightest, and is perfect for the hot Summers. 15 is the warmest, and will certainly keep you warm during the Winter. A Tog rating, however, is no reflection on the duvet's weight., a duvet may be very warm, but light in weight. Our 9 + 4.5 Tog duvets combine two individual duvets, which can be fastened together when the colder weather comes around. If you are looking for natural fillings, duck or goose feathers provide a plush support. Down, the small, fluffy feathers close to the birds' body, are far softer than feathers, and provide a higher quality sleep. Goose fillings are better than those of a duck, because the feathers and down are larger, and therefore trap more heat, while remaining light.
If you seek the highest quality downs available, we sell both Canadian and Hungarian downs. Hungarian geese are consistently high in quality and have a high 'fill power', meaning that they will, on average, last over double the lifespan of your common downs. Canadian geese are considered the best in the world, with an even higher fill power than Hungarian. Often raised in the prairies of Canada, these geese develop a large area of thick down on their fronts to help insulate themselves against the cold.
For those of us who prefer man-made fillings and fabrics, many of our duvets are made from various fibres, including; polycotton, polyester and polypropylene. Polycotton is a hybrid mix of polyester and cotton, mixing the natural softness and moisture retention of cotton with the durability of polyester. Polypropylene is a great quality material for duvets as it is flexible over the seasons and highly durable. Using cotton is another popular choice, as it is highly breathable, allows evaporation and is naturally strong.
